Learn how to build or retrofit your own stove, source appropriate organic matter, manage a burn, and colonizing the biochar with biota.
This interactive workshop will cover biochar as part of indigenous land management practices particularly the pre-Colombian Amazon civilization and the mound cultures of North America. It will also include discussion of opportunities to use biochar as part of restoration in Colorado. Participants will develop a biochar plan for their own garden or the ecological focus area of their choice.
The workshop will be led by Michael Alcazar, a veteran, permaculturalist, artist, designer, builder, and educator. Michael has been experimenting with biochar for more than a decade beginning on a farm he operated in Alabama and now as part of larger ecological restoration efforts.
The fee for the workshop is $30 for participants registered in advance and $45 at the door.
